Custom Therapeutic Massage

This type of massage involves the manipulation of soft tissues to alleviate pain, reduce tension, and promote overall relaxation. A variety of techniques including deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, abdominal massage, acupressure, myofascial release*, and trigger point therapy may be used to create a session that is specific to your individual needs.

*Myofascial Release: Our entire body is covered by one continuous layer of tissue called fascia. Myofascial release is a modality of bodywork that directly engages the fascia through slow, consistent pressure with very little lubrication. The goal of this work is to lengthen the fascia which can help to increase mobility, relieve tension, and be supportive for those suffering from chronic pain.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a specialized form of massage therapy that seeks to improve performance, prevent injuries, and speed up recovery time for athletes of all levels; from recreational to professional, dog-walker to olympian. Using techniques that include trigger point therapy, myofascial release, Thai table yoga, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, and Active Release Techniques, sports massage seeks to help reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility and improve range of motion which can lead to improved performance and decreased risk of injury. Additionally, sports massage can help athletes recover faster from working out and some competitions by reducing muscle, soreness and promoting healing.

Treatment note: Sports massage intake may include postural, walking, and range of motion assessment. We ask that you please wear/bring shorts and a t-shirt/tank top/sports bra to your sessions.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage can support a changing body as it nurtures new life. Benefits may include lowered stress levels, relaxation, improved sleep quality, ease of discomforts associated with the body’s adjustments, and relief from musculoskeletal strain and pain. We use a wedge pillow to achieve a semi-reclined position on the back and also incorporate side-lying techniques for added comfort.

Craniosacral Therapy and Somato-emotional Release

Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive, gentle type of bodywork. It focuses on the body’s innate healing mechanisms by addressing restrictions in the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This technique can improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and helps to release deeply held tension in the body’s connective tissues. Many people seek craniosacral therapy for conditions such as headaches/migraines, chronic pain, TMJ, fibromyalgia, anxiety, and trauma recovery.

Somato-emotional release is a therapeutic process that can naturally unfold during a craniosacral therapy session. Long-held emotional trauma is stored in the body, leading to symptoms such as pain, restricted movement, reduced energy levels and more. During a session, the inner wisdom of the client may signal that there are sufficient resources present to release some or all of the stored trauma. Dialogue may be used by the therapist to help facilitate and enhance this process. As a result, clients often experience profound calmness, a decrease in pain and a sense of relief.

Sessions are done while the client is fully clothed and lying on their back on a massage table. Loose fitting, comfy clothing is recommended.
